NEW FOR 2015:
– Driver Selectable Steering discontinued on SE.
Despite offering compact car shoppers style and good value for money, 2015 will be the final year of the swoopy Elantra Coupe. The two-door has had a relatively short lifespan as far as Hyundais go. It was launched in 2013 and was dropped from Hyundai of America’s lineup last year despite having received a new more powerful engine and a host of interior and exterior upgrades. For 2015 there are no changes to speak of other than the discontinuation of the Driver Selectable Steering system on the top-line SE trim. The system allows three different steering weights to be selected.
Rival to the Scion tC, Kia Forte Koup, and Honda Civic Coupe, Hyundai’s Elantra Coupe comes in three trims: GL, GLS, and SE. Compared to other entry level coupes, the Elantra’s direct-injected 2.0-litre four-cylinder delivers plenty of poke – 173 hp and 154 lb-ft. A six-speed manual is standard for GL and GLS trims, while a six-speed automatic comes standard on the SE, and is an option on the GL and GLS.
Features in GL trim include 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, six-way driver’s seat, 60/40 split/fold rear seat, 172-watt six-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio with satellite radio, iPod/USB/auxiliary input, Bluetooth hands free phone system, Driver Selectable Steering, dual heated power mirrors, heated front seats, air conditioning, power windows with driver’s auto down, power locks, rear seat centre armrest, rear lip spoiler, steering wheel mounted cruise/audio/Bluetooth controls, and tilt and telescopic steering wheel.
GLS adds cloth insert door trim, driver safety window, deluxe sliding centre armrest, mirror-mounted turn signal indicators, fog lights, 4.3-touch-screen with rearview camera, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, LED taillights, rearview camera, power tilt and slide sunroof, and projection headlights with LED accents.
SE adds six-speed automatic transmission, 360-watt sound system, 17-inch alloy wheels, 7.0-inch touchscreen navigation system with rearview camera, alloy pedals, auto-dimming rearview mirror, garage door opener, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather seating surfaces, simulated leather door inserts, power windows with driver’s auto up/down and pinch protection, proximity key with push button start, and sport-tuned suspension. SE deletes Driver Selectable Steering.
