Moving up a notch to a slightly larger SUV this week, and moving away from the Korean makes that I have been testing a lot of lately. This week, I am behind the wheel of GMC’s very successful Acadia. For 2011, GMC is offering even more luxury and features, with a much-requested Denali version.

Like the Tucson from last week, this vehicle is loaded; in fact, its sticker price is over $25,000 higher than that of a base 2011 Acadia. To put that into perspective, you could buy a well equipped Tucson for your spouse and a basic Acadia for the price of the Denali edition. But some people like their luxury, and there is no doubt that the Denali offers that up in spades.

Let’s go over some of the standard equipment on the Denali. From the outside, it starts with unique lower front and rear fascias, body-coloured lower cladding and rocker mouldings, unique bodyside mouldings with chrome accents, Denali badges and dual chrome exhaust tips.

Further distinction comes from the 20-inch, six-spoke, chrome-clad aluminum wheels with black chrome inserts and the availability of five exterior colours. On the inside the Denali offers a leather-wrapped steering wheel with mahogany wood inserts, heated and cooled driver and passenger seats, enhanced accent lighting in the footwells, premium acoustics, a dual skyscape sunroof and a head-up display.

Additional content includes tri-zone climate control, navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity, OnStar, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, premium audio system with USB port and 10-speakers, XM satellite radio, rearview backup camera and eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat with memory.
