Hey, it’s back to reality and a vehicle this week that I could actually afford to purchase, along with many of my loyal readers, I’m sure. I’m behind the wheel of the highly-anticipated 2011 Ford Fiesta, in what seems like the only colour they offer, Lime Squeeze (Ford actually offers a total nine colours).

My SES tester is the top of the line trim and comes with a lot of standard features for a vehicle in this class. Some of those include: air conditioning, cruise control, Microsoft Sync, bluetooth phone connectivity, sirius satellite radio, onboard trip computer, ABS brakes, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), hill start assist, dual-stage first-row air bags, a driver’s knee air bag, side airbags and side curtain air bags and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Powering the Fiesta is a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder engine packed with fuel-saving technologies such as twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT), aggressive deceleration fuel shutoff and an engine accessory drive system that improves efficiency by reducing the energy it takes to power the air conditioner and alternator.

My tester is equipped with the five-speed manual transmission; a dual-clutch PowerShift six-speed is available optionally and would be my choice as it provides even more efficiency. My tester adds leather seats and keyless entry with start button, options previously not available in this segment in Canada, for an as-tested price of $22,079.

As of this writing Ford is offering excellent incentives of just over $1,500 on the Fiesta, making this car a real game-changer for Canada by offering premium features -n an economy classed vehicle at a reasonable price.
