Bling-bling! At least I think it is the “bling” that is causing all the stares I am getting this week. The bling I am referring to are the 22-inch wheels mounted on my Ford Edge Sport tester — shiny and large, and coupled with the large blacked out front grille and dark tinted windows, this 2011 Edge really is a looker.

Improved power, a quiet ride, new technology and an enhanced appearance sum up some of the changes for 2011 that make this already competitive and desirable crossover even more so for 2011.

With a starting price of $43,499, the Sport is a long way off the base Edge’s price of $27,999. Add in a multitude of technology and convenience features and my tester comes in at $47,129 before freight and PDI. Some of those extra features include a panoramic sunroof, voice activated navigation and blind spot monitoring.

Although those 22-inch rims may look nice, one can rest assured the cost of replacement will not be for the faint of heart, so one may want to re-think that Sport checkbox. But that, unfortunately, means you cannot have the 3.7-litre V6 engine that powers my tester and outputs 305hp and 280lb/ft of torque instead of the 285hp and 253lb/ft of torque that the standard 3.5-litre powerplant delivers.

I’ll concede that the larger and heavier wheels probably negate the entire power bump at the expense of fuel economy. But hey, I like my bling so I’ll flaunt it, hopefully with the sunroof open and the windows down as this week, spring has finally arrived!
