This iconic pony car rides into 2013 with a revised snout and tail treatment and a bit more power. The 5.0-litre V8 is up eight horses to 420 hp. Fitted with the crisp-shifting six-speed manual transmission, the sharp steering and fine handling GT is all the Mustang you could want. Until you drive the Boss 302. Re-engineered from nose to tail, this 444 hp ‘Stang is a thinly disguised yet street-able track weapon with an epic soundtrack. Best Mustang ever. Not to say the 305 hp V6 Mustang is chopped liver. Good value and a great performer, especially with optional Performance Pack.

The Mustang also lends itself well to the classic top-down experience. Yes, it loses a bit of structural integrity with the roof gone, but overall it drives like the coupe, which is to say sharp and fast – especially in GT guise. With the top up the cabin is surprisingly well isolated, and with said powered roof tucked under the tonneau cover, four noggins can enjoy the wind and sun, and take in an earful of that classic Motown V8 soundtrack.

Boss 302 trim adds Hi-Po 5.0L V8 engine, Alcantara trimmed steering wheel, unique Boss cloth seats, unique Boss bodywork and stripes, Brembo front brakes, adjustable front and rear shocks, 3.73 rear axle ratio, unique 19-inch machines aluminum wheels, tire inflation kit (in place of spare tire), quad exhaust, and ditches many of the “nice to have” options included in the GT, such as the Shaker audio system and bright trim pieces.
