NEW FOR 2014:

– Compressed natural gas (CNG) system available as a factory option.

Chevrolet’s Express van continues for model year 2014 unchanged, other than a factory-installed compressed natural gas fuel system for the 6.0-litre V8 engine complete with three or four fuel tanks.

A workhorse through and through, the Express van has served small businesses, livery services, community groups, and really big families since 1996. In that time, it’s been facelifted just once. That was back in 2003, in case you were wondering.

The Express is sold as a passenger van or cargo van. The 1500 uses a 5.3-litre V8 engine with four-speed automatic transmission. The 2500 and 3500 use a 4.8-litre V8 with a six-speed automatic. Optional engines are a 6.0-litre gasoline V8 and 6.6-litre Duramax diesel engine, both with six-speed automatic transmissions.

All are rear-wheel drive, but the 1500 models can be optioned with all-wheel drive, which is unique in the full-size van segment. Trim levels on the passenger van are LS and LT. The 1500 features eight-passenger seating; the 2500 and 3500 models have 12-passenger seating. An available 3500 long-wheelbase model is 15-passenger.

Features on the 1500 LS include 17-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, auxiliary rear heater, OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation, engine block heater, painted bumpers, swing-out side doors, privacy glass, manual mirrors, swing-out rear door, variable intermittent wipers, full-length black vinyl flooring, tire pressure monitoring system, front vinyl-covered bucket seats, and CD stereo with four speakers.

The 1500 LT adds 17-inch alloy wheels, rear air conditioning, power doors locks with keyless entry, chrome bumpers, electric rear defogger, chrome grille, outside temperature display, auxiliary light package, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, carpeting with rubber floor mats, remote starter, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, instrument panel stowage compartment, dual vanity mirrors with passenger side illumination, power windows with driver’s auto-down, cloth seats, CD/MP3 stereo with six speakers, USB port and satellite radio.

Available options on the passenger van include all-wheel drive, sliding side door, heated power mirrors, trailer tow package, navigation, and power-adjustable front seats.
