Well last week’s “badass-mobile” is gone, so this week I’ll have to slum it in the new 2011 BMW 135i Cabriolet during what the hottest week of the year (so far) with daily highs reaching 37 degrees with 44-degree humidex. It is not really convertible weather, to be honest, but I’ll tough it out for my loyal readers.

Starting at a base price of $48,500, my tester is outfitted just perfectly with some very desirable options such as the Premium sound system ($1,200) which adds Sirius satellite radio and a harmon/kardon sound system. The M Sport Package ($1,900) includes: sports seats with electrically adjustable width, M Sport steering wheel and shift lever and 18-inch M double spoke alloy wheels.

My tester also sports a few stand-alone features that are very nice to have, like rear park assist ($450) and a seven-speed dual clutch transmission with paddles ($1,950), which is new for 2011.

My tester is also equipped with the Executive Package ($3,950) which includes: heated steering wheel (which is deleted with the M Sport package), comfort access, auto dimming mirror, electric seats with memory, lumbar support and Boston leather upholstery. To me this seems less desirable due to the high price.

So there you have it: close to $60,000 for a 1-Series BMW, a vehicle I have lusted over recently after seeing many on the road. I hope it meets or exceeds my expectations!
