NEW FOR 2015:
A vehicle line that began as the coupe version of the latest 3 Series sedan adds a sedan of its own for 2015 with the addition of the 4 Series Gran Coupe. This four-door is labelled a coupe for its rakish roofline, but then throws in the twist of a hatchback to boost the car’s practicality.
The 4 Series Gran Coupe starts out as the 428i, powered by a 2.0L, turbocharged four-cylinder engine familiar to numerous other BMW models; as in others, here it makes 241 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Drivers wanting more traction can add xDrive all-wheel drive to the 428i, and those after more power can opt for the 435i and its turbo inline six, which makes300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. It too comes with the eight-speed auto, but an all-wheel drive option will come later this year.
What the Gran Coupe doesn’t share with the 3 Series and standard 4 Series is a high-performance M variant.
Standard kit in the 428i and 428i xDrive includes 18-inch wheels, adaptive LED brakelights, automatic bi-xenon headlights, fog lights, heated side mirrors and windshield washer jets, tire pressure monitor, rain-sensing wipers, eight airbags (including driver and front passenger knee blockers), aluminum doorsills with BMW Sport label, fully-lined trunk, three-spoke leather sport steering wheel, tilt-and-telescoping steering column, heated eight-way power-adjustable leather front seats with adjustable side bolsters and thighrest, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, Bluetooth, nine-speaker CD stereo with USB integration and satellite radio pre-wiring, on-board computer, and 6.5-inch iDrive display.
The 435i adds 18-inch wheels, doorsills with ‘M’ labelling, 40/20/40 split folding rear seats, and a heated M-sport steering wheel.
