The convertible version of the 500 kicks the whimsy up several notches with a three-stage retro roll-back softtop that can be operated at any speed. Fully retracted, it pretty much obliterates rearward vision, but who cares when the sun warms your coif and illuminates this most charming of interiors? You lose the hatchback utility of course, but the rear seats fold down, creating a good-sized pass-through from the small trunk. While there is a slight loss of structural integrity, the 500c’s healthy dose of Euro-cool is unparalleled.

In Pop trim, features include 1.4L MultiAir 4-cylinder engine, 5-speed manual transmission, 15-inch steel wheels, power windows, locks, and mirrors, power retractable soft top, rear park assist, aspheric driver exterior mirror, projector headlamps, chrome door handles and exhaust tip, AM/FM/CD/MP3 with six speakers, cloth seating, driver’s seat height adjuster, Electronic Vehicle Information Centre, four-wheel disc antilock brakes, and airbags (front, side curtain, front seat, driver’s knee).

Lounge trim adds leather-faced seating, unique 15-inch cast aluminum wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheel, chrome shift knob, steering wheel mounted audio controls, automatic temperature control, fog lights, chrome power heated mirrors, bright belt moulding, body colour fascia with bright insert, bodyside mouldings with ‘500’ logo, satellite radio with one year subscription, FIAT premium audio system, Blue&Me hands free communication, auto-dimming rearview mirror, cruise control, and security alarm.
