For 2007, the Infiniti G35 sedan receives its first major redesign, with restyled exterior and interior, and the fourth generation of its VQ-series V6, with approximately 80 per cent of its major parts redesigned, including a higher compression ratio, improved coolant flow, new Iridium spark plugs, a higher rev limit and the addition of standard variable exhaust cam timing.
Other features include standard bi-Xenon headlamps, available intelligent cruise control, available adaptive front lighting, and new exterior colours Garnet Ember, Blue Onyx and Diamond Graphite.
The G35 is available in rear-wheel drive as the G35 Sedan, G35 Sedan Sport, and G35 Sedan Sport M6 (with manual six-speed transmission), and in all-wheel drive as the G35x. All use a 3.5-litre V6; unlike the G35 coupe, there is no horsepower difference in the manual-shift model. All but the M6 use a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.
Features on the G35 include 17-inch alloy wheels, Xenon headlamps, fog lights, heated mirrors, speed-sensing wipers, Intelligent Key with pushbutton ignition, tilt and telescopic wheel, cruise control, Bluetooth hands-free phone system, heated leather seats with eight-way driver and four-way passenger power adjustment, leather-wrapped three-spoke wheel, CD/MP3 stereo, side and curtain airbags, and tire pressure monitoring system.
The G35x adds a six-CD stereo, dual-zone automatic climate control, eight-way power passenger seat and automatic headlamps.
The G35 Sport and Sport M6 add 18-inch alloy wheels, premium Bose six-CD stereo, larger brake rotors, sport steering wheel, sport seats with driver’s side memory, power sunroof, power tilt and telescopic wheel, sport-style fascias, rear spoiler, aluminum pedals, auto-dimming mirror with compass, garage door opener, and viscous limited-slip rear differential.
The G35 may be Infiniti’s entry-level offering, but that’s a relative term: this sedan is a contender in a category usually topped by German sedans. It’s now even better, with a horsepower boost across the board, improved styling, nicer interior and more features that make it a standout in a sedan that starts under $40,000.
