New York, New York – The finalists for the 2009 World Car Awards and World Green Car have been announced. The winners will be named at the New York International Auto Show on April 9, 2009.

From an initial entry list of 51 new vehicles from all over the world, and then a short list of ten finalists, the top three contenders for the overall 2009 World Car title are the Ford Fiesta, Toyota iQ, and Volkswagen Golf VI.

To be eligible for the award, the contender had to be in production and sold on at least two continents during 2008. Voting is by an international jury panel of 59 automotive journalists from 25 countries.

For the 2009 World Performance Car, the top three finalists are the Corvette ZR1, Nissan GT-R, and Porsche 911 Carrera, while the three finalists for the World Green Car award are the Honda FCX Clarity, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, and Toyota iQ.

Cars eligible for the 2009 World Car Design of the Year are taken from the list of World Car candidates; the top finalists are the Citroën C5 Sedan/C5 Tourer, Fiat 500, and Jaguar XF.
