El Mirage, California – Television star and motorcycle builder Jesse James has broken the land speed record for a hydrogen-powered vehicle, which he drove in the Mojave Desert.

James attempted the challenge for his television show Jesse James Is A Dead Man. The episode will be the season finale when it is broadcast on August 9, 2009 on Spike TV.

James’ time has not yet been revealed, but the Southern California Timing Association documented that he beat the previous record holder, the BMW H2R, which set a land speed record for a hydrogen car in Germany when it reached 185 mph (297.7 km/h).
