Derbyshire, England – Toyota has started production of the Auris hybrid in England, the first full hybrid to be built in Europe, at its plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire.
The car will be launched in 32 countries in Europe, with deliveries beginning in July. The company has a full-year European sales target of 30,000 vehicles.
The Burnaston plant is the only one in the world to build the Auris Hybrid, which adds Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive technology to the four-door hatchback that is a mainstream model in the Toyota lineup. The plant was the company’s first in Europe.
Toyota said that the launch of the Auris Hybrid is a major step in the deployment of its full hybrid technology across the entire model range by the early 2020s.
