Laval, Quebec – The fare for transit buses in Laval, Quebec will be reduced to $1.00 on Monday, August 17, as part of a commitment by the Société de transport de Laval (STL) to reduce fares on days with local smog warnings.
Launched in 2008 and reintroduced this summer, the program drops the price of an adult bus fare to $1.00 on days that Environment Canada issues smog warnings in the local area.
The STL has reported that during the special fare on Saturday, August 15, nearly 1,200 more people opted to use public transit, up 4.8 per cent over the average number of trips during the summer. All vehicles in the fleet use B5 biodiesel fuel.
The program will end on September 7, and until then will be repeated on all days with smog warnings.
