Tokyo, Japan – The Toyota Prius was the top-selling passenger car in Japan in November for the seventh month in a row, according to the Green Car Congress.
The Prius sold 26,815 units; total passenger car sales for the month were 268,450 vehicles.
The Honda Insight came in fifth overall, with 9,413 units sold. Combined, the two hybrids accounted for 13.5 per cent of all new-vehicle sales for November.
Hybrids are popular with Japanese buyers due to tax breaks and subsidies offered toward the purchase of fuel-efficient models since April. Toyota’s new SAI hybrid goes on sale on December 5 and has already drawn 14,000 pre-orders.
