Canton, Mississippi – Nissan North America’s vehicle assembly plant in Canton, Mississippi has received an outstanding achievement award in energy efficiency and management from the Mississippi Development Authority’s (MDA) Energy Division. The award is presented annually to businesses and organizations for successfully reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

Nissan participated with the MDA and the U.S. Department of Energy’s “Save Energy Now” program, to identify measures that reduced the plant’s energy consumption. The plant was able to reduce the amount of energy used to produce each vehicle by about 400,000 BTUs.

Nissan’s Canton Plant has been labelled an Energy Star Plant by the Environmental Protection Agency for 2006, 2007 and 2008.
