Stratford, Ontario – A new Toyota store in Stratford, Ontario has become the first automotive dealership in Canada to earn Gold Certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.

Statford Toyota, at 925 Erie Street, is a $4 million state-of-the-art dealership that is also the first building in Stratford to achieve the LEED Gold Certification.

Several steps were taken to earn the certification, including construction using over 28 per cent recycled materials; 97 per cent diversion of all construction waste from landfills; energy conservation technologies such as energy-efficient lighting, in-floor heating and highly insulated wall panels to reduce energy use by 37 per cent compared with a typical building of the same size; an integrated 8,000-litre storm water cistern recapturing system that reduces potable city water use by more than 99 per cent; total water use reduction of 84 per cent through approaches such as low-flow toilets and drought-resistant landscaping; and the installation of special roofing material that repels sun rays in summer and insulates the building in winter.
