Ottawa, Ontario – A new, free online tool launched by CAA lets Canadians compare over 800 new models, including price, fuel economy and the environmental impact side-by-side.

“We know Canadians care about the environment, but that the cost of more environmentally-friendly vehicles is also a concern,” said Jeff Walker, CAA’s vice-president of public affairs. “The eco-choice calculator CAA has developed allows consumers to work out these trade-offs for themselves in just a few seconds.”

Consumers choose two vehicles to compare from a drop-down menu, enter approximately how many kilometres they drive, how many years they expect to own the vehicle, and the estimated cost of gasoline. The calculator then displays the difference in up-front price, the annual fuel cost for each vehicle, and the amount of greenhouse gases each vehicle would generate over the ownership period. The calculator contains both 2010 and 2011 vehicle data and will be updated annually.
