Toronto, Ontario – The annual ecoENERGY for Vehicles Awards, recognizing the most fuel-efficient vehicles in each of ten categories, were announced at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto.
The awards are administered by Natural Resources Canada’s Office of Energy Efficiency. All passenger cars and light trucks sold in Canada during the model year are eligible. The winning vehicles are determined by testing that simulates 20,000 kilometres driven annually, with 55 per cent in city, and 45 per cent in highway driving.
The winners are:
Two-seater: Smart Fortwo
Subcompact: Toyota Yaris
Compact: Honda Civic Hybrid
Midsize: Toyota Prius
Full-size: Hyundai Sonata
Station Wagon (tie): Audi A3 TDI and Volkswagen Golf Wagon TDI Clean Diesel
Pickup truck: Ford Ranger/Mazda B2300
Special purpose: Ford Escape Hybrid
Minivan: Mazda Mazda5
Large van: GMC Savana Cargo/Chevrolet Express Cargo
