Tokyo, Japan – Honda Motor Company has announced that it has reached cumulative global hybrid sales of 300,000 vehicles. The milestone was reached at the end of January 2009.
Honda now sells hybrids in approximately 40 countries, including the key markets of Japan, North America and Europe.
The company began its hybrid sales with the first-generation Insight in November 1999. An all-new vehicle with the same name went on sale in Japan on February 6, 2009, and is scheduled to go on sale in Europe in March, and in North America in April. The company has set annual targets of approximately 60,000 units in Japan, more than 30,000 in Europe, and approximately 100,000 units in North America, with an annual global sales target of about 200,000 units.
In 2010, the company will also introduce an all-new sporty hybrid based on the CR-Z design concept model.
