DSCPortland, Oregon – North America’s first public-use, quick-charge station for electric vehicles (EVs) has opened in Portland, Oregon. The station was opened by Portland General Electric (PGE) and NEC Corporation, with a Nissan Leaf test vehicle being the first to charge up.

Portland and the state of Oregon have been designated as top-tier launch markets for the Leaf when it goes on sale in the U.S. in December.

The station is located at the PGE headquarters in the parking garage of the Two World Trade Center. It is specialized for recharging lithium-ion batteries and requires only 20 to 30 minutes to recharge a battery to 80 per cent of full strength.
