Washington, D.C. – General Motors has announced that the Government of Canada, along with the California Air Resources Board, has signed on as a Diamond Sponsor for the EcoCAR Challenge. The competition challenges 17 universities across the U.S. and Canada to redesign and reengineer a 2009 Saturn Vue to further minimize energy consumption and reduce emissions.
The project is also supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and by General Motors.
Natural Resources Canada and Transport Canada have been long-time supporters of the DOE’s advanced vehicle technology competitions, providing technical and program support for more than 22 competitions over 18 years.
“The continued health of our economies and our environment demands innovative thinking today, especially where vehicle technology is concerned,” said Lisa Raitt, Minister of Natural Resources. “Our government is proud to offer its support and encouragement to the young people who are part of the EcoCAR competition.”
