Seoul, South Korea – California-based electric vehicle (EV) company ZAP has delivered the first electric taxi produced through its Chinese joint venture with Zhejiang Jonway Automobile. The taxi was delivered to Korean distribution partner Samyang Optics.
Samyang Optics and ZAP Jonway will showcase several new EVs planned for Korea at the EV Korea show this week, including the ZAP Taxi, ZAPPY3 personal electric transporters, and an electric SUV based on the Jonway A380. The company will also show the Alias, a futuristic EV designed by ZAP that was a finalist in the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE for ultra-high-efficiency vehicles.
Samyang Optics and ZAP Jonway have formed a business venture to distribute electric vehicles in Korea as part of the government’s push to commercialize EVs and have 10 per cent of all domestic small cars in the country electric-only by 2020.
