Victoria, British Columbia – British Columbia has purchased 106 new school buses that run cleaner than conventional diesels and get 60 per cent better mileage than gasoline buses.
The buses represent an investment of $12.5 million and will benefit 31 school districts in the province.
The cleaner-burning diesels reduce exhaust particulate by 90 per cent compared to the previous 1994 standard.
“These buses are built to meet the highest safety standards and incorporate progressively greener technology,” said Margaret MacDiarmid, Minister of Education. “While we continue to provide students with safe, comfortable transportation, we need to look at getting the best value for taxpayer dollars so that we can direct more resources to the classroom.”
