Vista, California – Aptera Motors of California has announced that its has produced its initial pre-production all-electric 2e model. The two-seat, three-wheeled commuter vehicle is the first of a planned fleet of Aptera vehicles that will undergo internal and external evaluations in preparation for full production in October.
The 2e is equipped with a lithium-based battery and features front-wheel drive, aerodynamic mirrors, and wider door openings that make it easier to enter and exit the vehicle than with the company’s previous designs. The 2e will go from zero to 96 km/h in under 10 seconds, with a top speed of 145 km/h, and get the equivalent of more than 200 m.p.g. (US), or about 1.1 L/100 km, based on a standard EPA driving cycle, with a driving range of more than 160 km per charge.
Aptera said that although the vehicle is still nine months from completion, it has received nearly 4,000 deposits from buyers. Expected price will be between US$25,000 and $45,000. Initial sales will be solely in California, with plans to distribute the Aptera to the rest of the U.S. by late 2010.
