Audi shows electric e-tron at Frankfurt show

Frankfurt, Germany – Audi has presented the e-tron, a high-performance electric sports car, at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Four motors, two at each axle, drive the wheels, making the concept car a true Quattro all-wheel drive. Producing 313 horsepower and 3,319 lb-ft of torque, the two-seater accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, and from 60 to 120 km/h in 4.1 seconds. It uses a lithium-ion battery to provide a range of approximately 248 kilometres.

The battery is directly behind the passenger cabin, for an optimal centre of gravity and axle load distribution, and the e-tron is able to distribute torque to the wheels as required for agility and precision when cornering.

The company said that there is a lot of work to do before electric cars are ready for volume production, with the greatest challenge being integration of the battery. Audi is taking a new approach with a systematic lightweight construction concept, and an optimal configuration of all electric drive components.
