Detroit, Michigan – Electric car company ZAP will preview its Alias electric sports car at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, as part of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE display.
The X PRIZE competition includes a US$10 million purse for production-capable vehicles that exceed 100 miles per gallon (2.3 L/100 km) or an energy equivalent.
The ZAP will be located in Electric Avenue, a section of the main floor showcasing electric vehicles and technology.
Powered by an array of large-format lithium batteries, the base-model Alias can top 136 km/h and travel over 160 km on a charge. It is expected to retail for around $35,000.
ZAP is optimizing the Alias design to meet growing demands from the European Union and Southeast Asia, as well as the requirements of the X PRIZE.
