Volkswagen New Compact Coupe concept
Toronto, Ontario – Displayed for the first time in Canada, Volkswagen’s New Compact Coupe (NCC) is a handsomely styled concept car with a turbo-diesel engine and full hybrid drive with excellent fuel economy estimated at 4.2 L/100 km (45 mpg) combined; and CO2 emissions of just 98 g/km.
A full hybrid, the NCC has a 1.4-litre turbocharged direct-injection diesel engine that develops a healthy 177 lb-ft of torque at low engine speeds. An electric motor is integrated between the engine and a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox; it can be used for pure electric emissions-free driving, or it can assist the engine. The NCC has a top speed of 227 km/h, and needs only 8.6 seconds for the classic sprint from zero to 100 km/h.
The four-seater NCC coupe is 4.54 metres long and 1.78 m wide with a low body height of 1.41 metres. Despite its low body height, the car offers ample head room in the front and rear, as well as leg room in the rear. The coupe’s 380-litre trunk can handle luggage for four persons.
