Even with the popularity of the previous generation hatchback, there’s definitely no 5-door in the cards

Recently, comments were made by Subaru project manager Masuo Takatsu stating a 5-door version of the venerable WRX and WRX STI was under consideration for the US market (and Canada thanks to market ties). Due to the popularity of the hatch/wagon model of the WRX, this seemed to be fairly believable. However, it seems something was lost in translation.

According to Motor Trend, American representatives for Subaru were caught completely off guard by the comments. They reached out to their compatriots in Japan who confirmed that, in fact, there is no 5-door variant in the cards.

Sorry, Subaru folks. In the meantime, you should email Volkswagen to tell them we want the R400 instead.
