Montreal, Quebec – Scion has taken the wraps off the 2012 Scion iQ at the Montreal Auto Show. The company’s all-new, premium micro-subcompact will join the Scion lineup of tC, xD and xB in Canada.

“Trend-setting urban Montreal is the perfect place for the Scion iQ to make its Canadian auto show debut,” said Larry Hutchinson, director of Scion in Canada. “Quebec has always been a market for smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles, but also a market that demands style, quality and innovative features. The Scion iQ celebrates good design, form that follows function, and the principle that big ideas often come in small packages.”

The world’s smallest four-seater, the iQ includes a large door opening and long-slide front seats for easy rear-seat access, a slim-back seat design for more rear legroom, a premium interior fusing modern style and textures, ten airbags including the world’s first rear-window curtain airbag, and active safety technologies including vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, brake assist and electronic brake force distribution.

The iQ uses a 1.3-litre engine with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) delivering class-leading 90 horsepower, smooth acceleration and excellent fuel efficiency. It is expected to achieve an estimated fuel consumption of just over 5 L/100 km, comparable to similar vehicles that feature less passenger and cargo capacity. The iQ will go on sale in Canada later this year.

Scion also announced that for the second year it will sponsor Montreal’s Igloofest, bringing together some of the electronic scene’s best artists in a unique outdoor music setting. The show will include Scion giveaways and vehicles on display. Those who test-drive a Scion at any Montreal Scion dealership between January 6 and January 29, 2011 will receive a free Igloofest ticket, CD sampler and the chance to play Scion’s “Take on the Machine” contest with a grand prize of a new Scion tC.
