50-50 joint venture will create Kei-based electric vehicle
Instead of going head-to-head on electric vehicles, competitors Nissan and Mitsubishi are deepening their partnership since its announcement in November of last year.
We initially reported the two automakers would share technology in the electric vehicle arena, though Nikkei reports they will now work together to develop a Kei-based low cost electric car, effectively replacing the i-MiEV.
The new low cost electric vehicle is expected to debut sometime in 2016.
While the Mitsubishi i-MiEV is sold in Canada solely as an electric offering, it is based on the gasoline-powered Mitsubishi i, sold in Japan.
