New engine renders AMG model nomenclature even more irrelevant

As we wait for the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class to hit dealer lots, Autocar has stated the next AMG version of the sports sedan – expected to keep the model designation C63 – will be powered by a new 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

The outgoing model was equipped with a 6.2L naturally aspirated V8 engine producing between 457 and 487 hp. The new engine is expected to output between 454 and 493 hp.

The new C63 AMG will retain the same 7-speed automatic transmission as the outgoing model.
