Rally Fighter builder to crowd-source design for new front-engine, rear-drive sports car

Local Motors, the Arizone-based builder of the instantly recognizable Rally Fighter, will be undertaking another automotive project in the form of a light-weight sports car, though its exact shape and engineering has not been finalized as it will be crowd-sourced much like their first vehicle.

Two versions of the sports car will be built. The first will be “naked” and designed in the same way as the Ariel Atom tube frame track toy. The other version, which will be “clothed”, will add bodywork to whatever chassis the car ends up with.

Local Motors has stipulated a couple of other requirements. The new car will be front-engined and drive the rear wheels, have full independent suspension, and a four-cylinder engine with more than 200 hp for the base model. Target weight is under 1600 lbs for the lightweight, naked version of the car.
