The long-in-tooth, body-on-frame SUV is set to receive the potent 3.5L EcoBoost V6 and drop the V8 entirely.
Lincoln’s go-to SUV for rappers who don’t want an Escalade may be surprised to find snails under the hood when they buy a Navigator after it is reintroduced.
Speaking with global Lincoln director Matt VanDyke, Motor Trend has confirmed the new Navigator will definitely get the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 and possibly drop the V8 option from the order sheet. However, the mechanically identical blue oval offering, Ford Expedition, may still get a 5.0L Coyote V8.
This is an attempt to differentiate the Lincoln brand from Ford’s non-luxury offerings, propping Lincoln up with an all-EcoBoost lineup. And it may work. But Lincoln has a long road to travel, especially in styling, before people will see the value in coming home with a Lincoln versus a similarly equipped Ford.
