Render shows mid-size van with Optima face

Kia has been holding on to the Sedona minivan for an incredibly long time. The minivan hasn’t seen much in the way of significant upgrades and definitely registers in the segment as an ‘also-ran’ choice.

Later this month at the New York International Auto Show, Kia plans to show a new MPV with capacity for up to 8 passengers, surely to replace the aging minivan.

Shown in the render above with sliding doors, the MPV sports similar styling to the Optima while looking like a much larger Rondo. The new model could also hint at a new minivan for sister company Hyundai, as their Entourage model was based on the same vehicle but was discontinued in North America for the 2010 model year.

Kia says the “global debut will challenge the segment.” We’ll find out what that means on April 16th or 17th.
