A supplier source has confirmed the next F-150 will have an aluminum body in addition to new 3.5L naturally aspirated and 2.7L EcoBoost V6s.

According to a report by The Truth About Cars, Ford’s aluminum development for the F-150 is going according to plan, even if the automaker itself had reservations on its success.

When Ford initially did development on the Atlas-esque new F-150, they also developed an all-steel body-in-white in case aluminum did not bear the fruit Ford desired.

Ford’s new pickup is due in 2015 and a few engines are confirmed: 5.0 Coyote V8, 3.5L Ecoboost, a new 3.5L naturally aspirated V6, and a smaller 2.7L Ecoboost V6. The Raptor is also set to return in 2016.
