Q50 Eau Rouge will make its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit

It’s hard to imagine where the new Q50 and the Infiniti-sponsored Red Bull Formula 1 cars have any sort of commonality. One is a road-going sports sedan and the other is an upside down airplane with wheels and a cockpit for one. Yet, here we are, and Infiniti has nabbed the name of Formula 1′s most famous corner for their newest concept.

Q50 Eau Rouge is said to “draw inspiration” for aero design from the Formula 1 campaign. Some body components have been replaced with those made of carbon fibre, with the car sporting a lower and wider profile. Other details include carbon fibre front splitter, rear diffuser, side sill skirts, roof, and door mirror casings. A set of 21-inch lightweight alloy wheels and a dual-exhaust finish off the look.

“From our shared passion for performance with Infiniti Red Bull Racing grew a collective desire to produce a vision of what a high-performance Infiniti Q50 could look like,” said Executive Design Director, Alfonso Albaisa.

“The design has a number of distinctive Formula One inspired touches.  In particular, the sculpted front wing assembly and the rear aerodynamic packaging take their cues from the RB9 race car.”

Infiniti has created a digital reveal site that will slowly piece together the new model based on social media shares.
