In its November issue, Consumer Reports rated the new-for-2003 Honda Pilot EX “Excellent” in tests between four models of eight-passenger sport-utility vehicles. The tests pitted the Pilot against three bigger and heavier full-size SUVs, the Toyota Sequoia, Ford Expedition, and Chevrolet Tahoe.
As well, the 2003 Honda Pilot outscored the magazine’s previously top-rated midsize sport-utility vehicle, the Toyota Highlander Limited V6. The Highlander was CR’s Top Pick for midsize SUVs in the Annual Auto Issue published in April 2002.
Consumer Reports’ November issue also compared winter and all-season tires. The magazine rated 26 winter and all-season models, including 15 high performance tires. The Dunlop SP Sport A2 was rated best in tests of H-speed-rated, touring-performance, all season tires. H-speed-rated all-season tires are found on roughly one of every 10 new vehicles that roll out of the showroom and are designed to handle sustained speeds of up to 210 km/h.
Among winter tires, Consumer Reports rated the Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW-2 and Kumho I’zen Stud KW-11 best overall.
