Auburn Hills, Michigan – A sold-out crowd honoured Lee Iacocca, Jay Leno, Richard Petty and the late Chrysler design chief Virgil Exner at an inaugural gala to raise money for the non-profit Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Michigan.

The event celebrated 85 years of Chrysler heritage. Iacocca, Leno and Petty were on hand, while Exner was represented by his son Virgil Exner Jr. The gala was also the official launch of the Walter P. Chrysler Legacy Campaign; the Museum Foundation board of directors announced that US$1 million has already been raised to date to ensure the museum’s long-term viability. The museum is located on the grounds of Chrysler’s headquarters in Michigan but is not funded by the automaker.

The gala included silent and live auctions of numerous items, including a day with Richard Petty, a tour of Jay Leno’s Big Dog Garage, and tickets to The Tonight Show. Leno also performed a full-length show as a donation to the occasion.
