Detroit, Michigan – BMW has unveiled the all-new 2012 3 Series Sedan at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The sixth generation of the 3 Series is larger than its predecessor, but lighter and more fuel-efficient, and the first to offer an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new 3 Series sedan is available as the 328i, with 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and as the 335i, with 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder. Both use a six-speed manual transmission or the new eight-speed automatic.
As part of BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology lineup, the new models also feature start/stop technology, brake energy regeneration, optimum shift indicator and need-based operation of ancillary components, including a disengageable air conditioning compressor.
Other new, available features include a full-colour head-up display, surround view camera, parking assist system, lane change warning and departure system, and hands-free operation of the trunk lid.
The new 3 Series will also be available later in the year with ActiveHybrid drive.
