New model rumoured to be based on BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe

While American cars may hold on to the “bigger is better” stereotype, Chinese buyers like their vehicles in extra long format. BMW knows this and will show a new range-topper at the Beijing Auto Show later this month.

The new 9-Series sedan is expected to be revealed in China in concept form and receive styling similar to the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe (pictured adobe) but should sport four doors instead of two.

The new model will compete with the soon-to-be released Mercedes-Benz S600 Maybach and positioned alongside the Rolls-Royce Ghost. It will also share a recently developed, lightweight platform with Rolls-Royce as well as the next 7-Series. Both BMW models are expected to enter production sometime in 2016.
