New York, New York – Kia Motors America has held the North American debut of its all-new 2011 Sportage compact CUV at the New York International Auto Show.
The completely redesigned Sportage offers a more urban and fluid silhouette than its predecessor, while retaining the functional features and benefits of the popular CUV. The 2011 Sportage also offers increased levels of performance, efficiency, comfort, convenience, and the latest in-vehicle technologies.
“Adding world-class design and cutting-edge technologies to an already successful value-packed CUV equation, the all-new Sportage offers Kia the opportunity to attract an entirely new and more sophisticated customer,” said Michael Sprague, vice-president of marketing. “The 2011 Sportage retains the functionality and versatility of the previous-generation model but repackages the CUV into a sleek, modern and bold style with new proportions and a completely new look to help elevate the Kia brand further as a world design leader.”
The all-new Sportage comes standard with a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine that offers more power and better fuel economy than the previous 2.7-litre V6 engine. A more powerful but extremely fuel-efficient gas direct injected (GDI) turbocharged engine will be available later. The Sportage’s six-speed automatic transmission, first seen on the 2011 Sorento, is a proprietary unit that was designed, engineered and built specifically for Kia vehicles. The Sportage comes in two- or all-wheel drive.
