Next-generation pony car sees slight weight gain

It’s official. When the 2015 Ford Mustang hits dealer lots toward the end of this year, 5.0-litre V8 models will be cranking out 435 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Those looking to go down the road of turbocharging will be welcomed with 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque coming from the 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder.

All engines available for the Mustang can be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. The base V6 engine, which is good for 305 hp in 2014, gets a power reduction to 300 hp in 2015, rumoured to be done by design to create a larger gap between it and the now-mid-level EcoBoost mill. The 3.7-litre V6 also develops 280 lb-ft of torque.

The 5.0-litre V8 gets in increase in power in 2015 (+15 hp, +10 lb-ft) versus 2014.

Along with output numbers, Ford published new weights for the ponycar:

  • V6 6MT Coupe: 3526 lbs, +30 lbs versus 2014
  • EcoBoost 6MT Coupe: 3532 lbs, +6 lbs versus 2015 V6
  • V8 6MT Coupe: 3705 lbs, +87 lbs versus 2014

We will have more information about the new-for-2015 Ford Mustang as it becomes available over the next few months.
