Top flight microcar will get a slushbox option for 2015

When the 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth starts rolling out to dealer lots an additional option will grace the order sheet. For next year, the top flight 500 model will be available with an automatic transmission. The slushbox will also be available on Turbo models.

Fiat executives have stated a lack of automatic option for the Abarth has hindered sales amongst younger buyers.

“Frankly, [young people] just don’t drive a manual transmission,” Jason Stoicevich, head of Fiat for North America, said to Automotive News. The brand is hoping for a 50 percent gain in sales with the addition of the option.
