The Crown Victoria was never a particularly intimidating car. Even it’s name didn’t really strike fear into those finding themselves on the wrong side of the law.
But, this, the 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit, is your new overtly-aggressive police interceptor, complete with black and white uniform and steel work boots.
While most law enforcement vehicles are nothing but their civilian counterparts with some shiny paint and a light bar, the Charger will utilize the old six-speed automatic transmission thanks to the need of a column shifter. This allows the center console to be freed up for all the necessary law enforcement electronics used by officers on patrol.
Other upgrades are aimed at beat cops, including a steering wheel with remappable auxiliary buttons for aftermarket police equipment, larger (14.5-inch front, 13.8-inch rear) brakes, and additional front suspension bushing durability for RWD models.
Pursuit models are available with both 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 and 5.7-litre HEMI V8 engines in rear- and all-wheel drive. Expect the first models to hit the civilian market via government asset auctions sometime in 2020, ready to accept 6.2-litre Hellcat V8 engine swaps.
