At $90.52 per horsepower, the Challenger SRT Hellcat is a performance bargain

It’s hard to imagine Dodge is bringing a 707 hp muscle car to market with a full warranty and the ability to do burnouts to China. The 6.2-litre Hellcat V8 is also good for a quarter-mile time of 11.2 seconds on street tires, quick enough to have your car sent off for an immediate tech inspection at some tracks.

Now Chrysler has put a price on all that performance for us north of the border: $63,995.

Let’s put this in perspective…

That’s $90.52 per each of the 707 hp under the hood, or $98.45 for each one of the 650 lb-ft of torque cranked out by this immensely powerful supercharged V8.

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 lists for $59,310 and has 580 hp. After some math, that equals $102.26 per hp. If you want to go the Blue Oval route, a Mustang Shelby GT500, with 662 hp, will set you back $61,699 before taxes and destination, or $100.01 per hp.

We will have more on the Challenger SRT Hellcat and other versions of the Challenger later this week. The 2015 Challenger goes on sale later this year.
