New 6.2-litre LT4 V8 is not your grandpa’s pushrod
When the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 arrives at the end of this year, it will come with one wallop of an engine under the hood in the form of a 6.2-litre supercharged LT4 V8.
General Motors, in a release today, stated the new motor will develop 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque at its peak. But, the real news is how much torque is available virtually everywhere else in the rev-range.
At just off idle, the new motor will deliver 457 lb-ft, while 625 lb-ft will be produced as low down as 2,800 RPM.
Compared to the outgoing 7.0-litre V8 in the previous Z06, the new LT4 produces 180 more lb-ft of torque and 46 lb-ft more than the previous top-dog ZR1.
