Be one of the first 500 people to preorder the Golf R with DCC® Dynamic Chassis Control and Navigation, with a retail MSRP of $39,090.
If that were the Canadian price, then that would be very, very reasonable.

Given that we're currently at $1.16 CAD = $1 USD, I highly doubt that we'll see a Navi Golf R for under $46k...too pricey given the competition.

I've been toggling back and forth between the Golf R and Audi S3. Same chassis and driveline more or less?

1.16 is the market rate. The cheapest I can get a USD is 1.168 right now, while TD charges 1.191.

Without the availability of the S3 Avant the R is my choice.

Mi papa works for a bank, so I can exchange at market rate.

As far as USD credit card purchases are concerned, I recommend:
https://www.chase.com/online/canada/amazon-ca-home.htm

Highlights:
1) Canadian dollar credit card
2) 1% cashback on all purchases
3) no fee card
4) no foreign transaction fees (i.e. all charges in foreign currencies are charged at the market rate at the time of the transaction).
5) free $20 amazon.ca gift card just for getting the card

I've had mine for a couple of years now and love it...use it all the time in the US, used it in Euroland, and my parents recently even used it in Japan.

Order guide is out:

So basically for $5k over a loaded GTI you gain a bunch of power, AWD, 19" wheels, and DCC. Not unreasonable.

Canadian $       I'll have mine in Tornado red please just like my '87 GTI twin-cam.  I will take the technology package as well.  For myself I'd have the 6 speed but with mrs tpl's leg it would have to be the DSG.  Oh Well...

$40K without the need to spend a dime more.  That Tech package has nothing that I'd pay extra for.

This puts pressure on Ford to keep the RS pricing in check.  And Subaru needs to think hard about STi pricing - The Golf is a gorgeous car with a LOT of equipment.

Hmm. Colour me tempted.
At least the DSG is a really good one.  I honestly don't know if i'd go manual here or opt for the DSG.

Yep, that's pretty good pricing for Canada.  I'm still not thinking the R will work for me - just a little too small, whereas Golf Wagon is just right - but damn, might have to think long and hard about this one!  :lick:

And John beat me to it, this should also force Ford into keeping the Focus RS price reasonable.

Is this Golf R going to be a regular order model, or will it be limited run like the previous Rs were?

No production restraints AFAIK.

Only downside for me is no sunroof but that will be available later.

Yeah difference is 2500 or so when you add DCC to GTI.

Worth every penny over the GTI for the huge power jump and AWD.

Very impressed with the price

I love having a sunroof so I will have to wait until this is added. I guess that gives me some time to find a job so I can buy one.

Yeah I'd be perfectly happy sans-Tech package.   I wouldn't mind the Nav, but wouldn't care enough to spend $2k for it.   The rest is stuff I'd rather not have.

$40k flat is a nice price for that car.

Nav is standard – the tech package gets the 8" Discovery Pro system that has been only available in Europe up until now.
