Yup, they are replacing torque converters.

That's fine but I wonder how many of the customer satisfaction issues are due to the very nature of CVT's?

Hard to say, some people see nothing in anything and others like ourselves will.  I can remember 06-07 when the switch to 5 and 6 speed autos had a lot of people complaining about flaring and erratic shifting.
