I'm not really a fan of the whole retro muscle car thing but I'd say this version of the Mustang probably hits the sweet spot between price and performance for those that are.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

I'm not a fan of muscle cars either and $50k would offer a galaxy of just as fast or faster-under-most-road-conditions options that are a whole lot more balanced, fuel efficient and competent.

A $20k Mustang with a 390 is cheap fun but this car isn't so cheap.

Cheers,
John M.

Like what?

Exactly.  Not sure there is anything south of $50k (brand new) that is "just as fast or faster" than the GT.

Great car.

(though I too have tired of the retro styling...)

I'd be looking at things that can handle and function in low traction environments.  Maybe WRX, MAzda 3s and other hopped up hatches.  I'm not sure where the entry point for quick Audis and Genesis begins but it can't be too far north of $50k.

Anyway, I think it is a lot of money for power which is not usable most of the time and for a vehicle with a very narrow daily use and performance envelope.

Basically, big iron, old idea.  Certainly better executed than 50 years ago but it wasn't a particularly advanced idea 50 years ago.

Cheers,
John M.

You're clearly underestimating the GT's handling abilities.  This isn't the same Mustang they were cranking out 20 years ago.

On basically any day that isn't a blizzard, the GT would run circles around the WRX, Speed3, Genesis and any lower-mid priced Audi (Hell, probably all Audi's that don't starting with an "R").

If your true beef is that you can't use the GT's abilities on our public roads, then fine.  But that's different then claiming their are better performing cars for the price.

I'm a fan of mustang..  don't care that it has solid axle (new model coming apparently has IRS).  just the sound of Coyote V8 is worth 20k alone.

BUT, the new CLA AMG, and Audi S3 along with BMW 235 SHOULD be just as quick on real street and possibly even quicker on twisty roads (not track, roads) and should be right around 50k mark.

yes, they are different kind of cars, but performance wise, they are comparable, i think.

even though i am kind of a fan of genesis, it really doesn't compete with mustang, unless we are talking strictly V6..  (then mustang is a bargain.)

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

Not to come off as unabashed Mustang lover  ;D BUT, I would seriously question that statement.  I think the GT would still run away and hide on those cars...even on twisty public roads.

I agree, I'd rather daily drive a 235, but I wouldn't expect it to keep up with the GT.

People are seriously underestimating just how fast that latest GT is.

Love the Mustang. Unfortunately, I can't find an excuse to get one in my current lifestyle.

You guys have to remember that the 5.0. beat the current M3 around the track. It's super FAST, man.

Wasn't that the Boss edition Laguna Seca?  Or was it the standard GT?

Best bang for the hp buck for a while now.  Ford has promotions a few times per year where this car starts at $32K.  CLA starts at 50K and a typical one will be around 60-65K OTD, while loaded ones are close to $80K  They aren't even in that same ballpark pricing wise.

It is arguably still a relative value if you are looking at strict performance metrics.  To the extent that cache counts, well, the Mustang brings none of that.  Of course, working class swagger is part of its appeal to me.  Last thing Oakville needs is anther d-bag flaunting conspicuous consumption.  I would order mine closer to the base GT configuration.

Hear that you Oakville d-bags? Cut it out right now.

Yep, I was only suggesting "good value vs performance" in relation to the Shelby.

For my 50K I'd settle for less raw power in return for a little more refinement/nicer interior finish etc.

That 50k would be no-man's land for me…I'd either find more money and buy a Corvette or strip away options and get something closer to the base GT. Or, If I was dying to spend around 50 on a Mustang I'd try to stretch for the Boss. Or…get a base-ish GT and add 10 grand in go-fast parts.

Funny that you liked the Pirelli P-Zero Nero No-Season tires, I find them to be quite awful.
My Mustang can induce them to spin with very little effort.

The car does sound fantastic though - especially with the top down.

Just built one on the Ford site exactly the way Id buy it. Grabber blue, Brembo package, Recaros and the big stereo.... $44,115 with taxes and everything. For that kind of money, outside the Camaro SS, there is not much that can touch it. Sure, if you can stretch the extra $20-25K, go for the Vette, but brand new, off the lot, this would be my pick for a fun car. The Boss302 would be cool, but for a daily driver/weekend hot lapper, the GT would be good enough for me....with a louder exhaust  ;D
Lighten up Francis.....

I guess you'll get a couple/few thousand off of that…not too bad. You should ride that pony.
